Teaching Dance #3
by Sue McKinnell 4x32 Jig/Reel for 4C
(Set Dance)
Bars
1-8 1C & 2C face each other up and down the set. 1W & 2W, 1M & 2M dance back to back and turn each other RH once round, ending facing partners across the set. 3C & 4C dance similarly.
9-16 All four couples dance back to back with partners and turn them RH once round.
17-24 1C & 2C, 3C & 4C circle left and back.
25-32 1C cast off to 4th place, followed by 2C, 3C, & 4C. 1C make an arch and 2C, 3C, 4C dance through the arch to end in the order 2, 3, 4, 1.
Repeat 4 times.
Suggested music is a lively jig or reel. I find the dances on The Macadians Play Burns Night in the Annapolis Valley has several tracks that work well.
This dance is one of four that were written for a teaching session at the Chicago Highland Games. Since the people who participate in this are usually totally unfamiliar with Scottish Country Dancing, I needed simple dances with easy figures and an easy progression.
