4C set dance
Bars
1-8 3C & 4C start the dance crossed over to opposite sides.
All set and cross RH with partners. All set and turn RH into promenade hold, 1C & 2C facing up, 3C & 4C facing down.
9-16 1C & 2C, 3C & 4C dance an allemande as if it were a three-couple allemande without a second couple. 1C & 2C will be dancing out the top of the set, and 3C & 4C will be dancing out the bottom of the set. As the couples dance up or down the sides of the dance (bars 5-6 of the phrase), 1C dances to 3rd place and 4C to 2nd place. The order is now 2, 4, 1, 3 with 4C & 3C on opposite sides.
17-20 4C cross down to 3rd place as 1C cast up to 2nd place. 1C cross down to 3rd place as 4C cast up to 2nd place. (This is a half double figure of eight for two couples.)
21-24 4C dance up between 2C and cast to 2nd place, facing down, as 1C cast down behind 3C and dance up between 3C to 3rd place, facing up. The order is now 2, 4, 1, 3 with 1C & 3C on opposite sides.
25-32 Mirror reels of four on the sides of the dance. To begin, 4W & 1M pass left shoulder, 4M & 1W pass right shoulder.
Repeat 4 times.
Suggested music is The 25th Reel from Celebrate 50 Years with the Boston Branch.
This dance is named for my cat, Sassafras - Sassy, because she has definitely decided to live her life on her terms, following no one’s rules but her own.
